On the Move

It seems that Edublogs are no longer supporting embeddable content for their free blogs 🙁 Widgets, etc just disappeared over night!!!!

Unfortunately we’ve had to disable embedding of most code by non Pro members as sploggers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spam_blog) were using JS redirects on free blogs 🙁 There are *no* other blog hosts that allow embedding like we have done so far and we’ve been forced to limit it due to this abuse by spammers.

Not sure that I agree that *no* other blog hosts allow the same level of embedding. I have been using Blogger for my Free Resources for Education blog and have been able to embed exactly the same content if not more!

I just love using embeddable content so I guess I’ll either have to pay up or move on. Hmm, well for the moment, Blogger here I come.

I will be redirecting my Feedburner RSS feed to the new blog address so it should be a smooth transition for those readers already using that feed. Anyone using the Edublogs RSS feed will have to switch to the Feedburner RSS feed.

I will also be transferring all previous posts to the new blog so that all the content can be searched and accessed from the one place.

  1. I seems to be the way of things that now we have tasted what is posible we are going to have to decide on what we like and what we can afford.

  2. Agreed. We may still have the ‘free lunch’ but with a limited selection of goodies to choose from!!! Definitely a sign of the times!

  3. That’s a big pity, was considering moving from blogger to edublogs as many of the images are blocked on different computers in school on blogger blog I do with my class… so may have to reconsider… what is the best free site to use for a class blog? Pity schools broadband isn’t a bit more flexible…

  4. Hi Joanne
It is a shame about the free account, although in fairness to Edublogs their paid subscription is very reasonable. You could always upload your images to a site that is not blocked and then just link to them from blogger. Requires a bit of extra effort but works well.

The schools broadband can be a bit restrictive although I know they are now offering different levels of ‘blocking’ one of which does allow YouTube etc.

Here are some other free educational blogging sites that I have come across but not used, so I’m not sure how good they are. I’m a dedicated blogger fan!

PS. Congratulations on the Junior Spider Awards win. Well deserved!!!
